Ever felt like you have literally no time left in the day? Boom, you wake up, and then suddenly it’s nearly 1am and you’ve been staring at your laptop screen for hours writing a blog post (nope, definitely not about me…). In this day and age it just feels like there’s so much to do, and never enough time to get it done. Back when I was working over summer, life was even more hectic, with so many different events in one day. From breakfast meetings, office work, to drinks afterwards, to going to a blogging event later in the night. Plus, it felt like each event required a different outfit (and yes, that did actually all happen to me once, all in one day). A day to night outfit would have been the dream.
I can’t count the number of times that I’ve been at work and had to pack a whole extra outfit to change into, thinking how inconvenient it was to carry all of this stuff with me all day. One time, I had plans with my parents to go to the ballet after work. I had to very carefully pack a silk dress with spare shoes and an evening bag all in this giant black tote. Needless to say, the dress got hopelessly creased and I had to (unsuccessfully) steam it at work.
Wouldn’t it be so much easier, I thought, if I could come up with an outfit where I’d just need to swap out one/ two pieces to make it work in the evening? I’d read about the magic of the day to night outfit for years in magazines, on blogs, on Instagram, etc, but I’d never truly believed. I’m not one for packing light, so I always ended up just taking a whole extra outfit anyway, mumbling to myself but-this-sparkly-top-just-looks-so-much-better-with-a-mini-skirt-than-work-trousers.
Then I came across this gorgeous metallic midi skirt, which quickly became a hero piece in my wardrobe. Firstly, it’s a) a midi skirt, b) pleated, c) METALLIC. But also, I immediately pictured it both dressed down with a tee and dressed up with heels. And once winter rolled around, of course, I couldn’t resist pairing it with a chunky knit. I was going for a bit of a ‘fashion editor at the office’ vibe when styling the ‘day’ look. So, rather than trainers, I went for an elegant-casual look, adding these red slingbacks for my day to night outfit.
For the ‘night’, I added this cute camisole, perfect for Christmas party season coming up. As it’s loose-fitting I normally only wear it over skinny jeans or trousers. But, I loved how its silver sequins matched the silver of the skirt. I’ve added some higher heels as well to take the look into the evening. My beloved Gucci bag I wear just as much in the day as in the evening, although for the evening I usually elongate the chain. Honestly, I know I was just shooting this look and not wearing it all day, but this day to night outfit saved SO. MUCH. TIME. I wore the cami under the jumper, then just whipped it off and changed my shoes. So simple that I couldn’t help thinking to myself – ‘why haven’t I tried this before?’
Collaboration with Monaco Regatta
An evening look wouldn’t be perfect without the right jewellery. So, I tried to pair this outfit with jewellery that would work for a day to night outfit. And these gorgeous anchor bracelets do just that, being fun and not too OTT. As I’ve said in previous posts, I love anything nautical themed, so I was instantly drawn to the anchor designs. I’ve actually noticed a trend on Instagram recently for nautical jewellery – anchors are everywhere right now!
But what set Monaco Regatta apart for me was that all the bracelets are handmade by specialists in Monaco. Each product is genuinely amazing quality for the price (the jewellery is plated in 24 carat gold and comes in its own dust bag and box). Inspired by the beauty of the French Riviera, each item encapsulates Monaco’s sailing heritage. The decision to pair the anchor with rope rather than a gold chain also makes it a lot more practical to wear in the daytime.
I also love how the brand’s products are unisex (as I’ve just written about gender equality this is personally extremely important to me). And finally, the team at Monaco Regatta are all so lovely. I suffered a small mishap with my delivery, which was no fault of the brand’s. In fact, a courier far down the shipping line mixed up two address labels. But the team were so apologetic and kind and instantly posted out new bracelets to me. ON A SATURDAY.
