So, I’m continuing my foray into maximalism with a loud combination: leopard and velvet. Velvet was a massive trend on the A/W’16 catwalks, appearing everywhere from Alberta Feretti’s velvet suits to Stella McCartney’s velvet puffa jackets. Now, a few months on, it’s everywhere on the high street. While I thought a velvet suit or velvet jacket might be a bit much, I thought I’d dip into the trend with something practical: this cute, velvet skater skirt from Topshop. The burgundy colour of the velvet made it perfect for my autumnal colour pallette.
I instantly loved the combination of the velvet with the leopard print: together, the patterns looked so rich, almost royal, and perfectly maximalist. This leopard print coat, if you’ve seen my previous post, is my new favourite coat. The texture is so soft and I usually don’t like leopard print much, but it looked classy rather than trashy, which I loved about it.
To tone down the maximalism of this leopard-y, velvet-y outfit I added this simple white top and my favourite black ankle boots.
In terms of bags, I found it hard to pick between these two. The red bag fitted the maximalist theme of the outfit, but my new black Mango tote bag made the perfect day bag by fitting all my essentials in for uni.
