I recently wrote a post about having confidence in yourself, and such a huge part of this is self-love. So, here’s why it’s important to love your body.
For years, I wouldn’t have felt confident enough to wear a top like the one in this post. All throughout growing up, I was so tall and skinny, like a stringbean, and I was so self-conscious of my lanky limbs that I’d never wear remotely “sexy” clothing, i.e. any clothing that drew attention to my figure. I was especially self-conscious of my boobs – for years, I’d wear padded bras in an effort to make them look bigger, and give me more confidence in myself.
So, for me, this post feels like a personal breakthrough. I’m not going to lie, I felt very self-conscious throughout this ‘shoot. But wearing a sheer top with a lacy, non-padded bralette underneath, I did for pure style – not sex appeal. I’ve never been more proud. I loved how the two looked together so much that I didn’t care about how my boobs were. The minute I stopped caring about what other people thought and how others perceived my body, I learned to love my ‘imperfections’ – if I can even call them that.
The fact is, no one’s body is perfect. I know it can seem that way, when we live in a world of celebrities with daily personal trainers, in an age of Photoshopped Instragram photos. It’s so easy to want this, to aspire to this seeming perfection – but it’s not the reality. The reality is that everybody has imperfections. It’s learning to love these that will give you true confidence; including the confidence to wear whatever you want.
So, to summarise, here’s 8 reasons why it’s important to love your body…
- You’ve only got one. Cherish it.
- Loving your body is as much a part of looking after it as going to the gym, or eating clean.
- The ‘perfect’ body you’re aspiring to – the one you see on social media, on TV? It isn’t real.
- It will give you confidence to wear anything you like; making you happy and more self-assured.
- Your life won’t be different if your body is a little different. If you gain or lose weight, what happens in the grand scheme of things?
- Food. Tastes. Good. It’s okay to treat yourself.
- Everybody has different notions of what a ‘perfect’ body is. Yours will be ‘perfect’ to someone out there.
- But, most importantly, it should be ‘perfect’ to you.

Great post Nina! Such a good reminder for everyone. It’s too easy to compare what you don’t have with others. Rather than playing victim or having toxic thoughts, appreciating what you have and working on strengths while trying to improve on areas you’re lacking in is definitely the way to go. For me self-love is an ongoing journey but I’m very happy with how far I’ve come:D Btw I just have to comment that you look amazing in that outfit! Love the bright pop of colour of the jacket, the detail on the blouse, shoes and bags and you’re definitely rocking those pants!
